DONATE MATERIAL GOODS

Donation of items

HAVE ANY ITEMS YOU WOULD LIKE TO DONATE TO US?

If so, please keep in mind the items from our wish list!

WHY?

Some items, if donated in large quantities, are not only not needed, but in large quantities can actually be harmful to the local community of the school.

The Puerto plata area is already flooded with clothing donations. The students and their families can already get quality clothing for little to no money at all.

So how can donating clothes be harmful? Local Haitian small businesses are negatively affected by the surplus of second hand items in their community as they cannot compete with the low prices. Therefore, by contributing to these local Haitian businesses as much as we can, we are not only providing our students with the items they need, but we are also financially giving back to the Haitian community, which is a more sustainable way to make progress in breaking the cycle of poverty.

When we are in need of clothing for our students, we try our best to support the businesses in our community. However, some items are simply too expensive or are hard to find in DR, so we have put them on our wish list!

EXAMPLE #1: CLOTHING

The transportation of our donations is a factor to take into account.

The cost of shipping one barrel of items (from Canada) is $180.

Therefore, the items shipped have to be worth their weight in shipping costs.

EXAMPLE #2: TRANSPORTATION

Storage space is quite limited! Therefore we must also make sure that our donations are worth their weight in storage as well.

EXAMPLE #3: STORAGE

Some items are just cheaper to buy locally! Buying items locally when feasible is preferred, because it makes a positive economic impact on the surrounding community.

EXAMPLE #4: BUYING LOCALLY

WITH ALL THAT SAID...

There are still items that we are on the look for and would be GREATLY appreciated!
